beginning of a journey...

Friday afternoon about 4:00p.m..It was the beginning of December and the beginning of holiday craziness!  I just came home from one of the kids schools. Little did I know that our entire lives would be changed forever when I opened up my email that day. There was an email about a little boy who was in need of a family! Whoa!!! the header of the email said...boy needing a family, adoption disruption!
In the beginning of 2011 our church began a book study called Outlive Your Life by Max Lucado. We met 1 night a week for about 5 weeks and my life was totally changed. There was so much information in the book about people in need....We discussed how in the book of Acts, the early church...was a family that shared everything and took care of one another. There was no separate bank accounts or separate 401K plans...They shared everything! They saw love as an action word..a verb. They worshiped together, prayed upon everything, and broke bread with each other. When a need was presented they came together to see that the need was met..i.e. the widows....The Orphans...the poor.
I learned that being complacent in our comfy house with our swimming pool and friendly neighbors was great an all, but that Christ has something different in mind when He said to love your neighbor. In the book of Matthew, Jesus said "whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me".
I had a heart for God and wanted to glorify His name with my life, my family ministry and whatever it was He was calling me to do...when the time had come. What I didn't realize was that, Going into all nations wasn't just for someone who could actually fly to the other end of the world to do missionary work..It was asked ...no, commanded of all of us who are in the body of Christ. God broke my heart for the least of these...especially, the Orphan.
We have been blessed by the miracle of adoption when our close family adopted 2 sibling groups from Ethiopia and then one amazing baby girl. We have been witnesses to the hope and life that adoption brings to these precious children...and the family who adopted them! Adoption is God's idea! Before the creation of the world, God put adoption in place...knowing that through The Cross of Christ, we would be adopted into His Family! Amazing Grace!!
I was blessed to join a group of amazing people who worked for educating, encouraging and enabling families and people to advocate for and adopt orphans with HIV/AIDS and special needs. Soon I learned about so many children, so many different children, different stories, different locations...but all with the same need....They all needed a family! There are over 150 million Orphans in the entire world!!! I will write that again, There are over 150 million Orphans in the world. What can I(we) do to make a difference for even 1?
My prayer began, Lord continue to break our hearts for what breaks Yours. Help bring our family together to move on behalf of even 1 child if not more, to give them what they are needing the most, family.  Lord, You know our family situation, You know our finances...You know everything about us! Let nothing keep us from being a voice for the least of these and let no mountain stand in front of us that would keep us from moving forward and adopting the child you have in mind for our family.
again, it was Friday afternoon about 4:00p.m. and little did I know that our lives would be forever changed when i opened up my email that day. The email header read : boy needing a family, adoption disruption.
